Location: Norwalk, Ohio

Employer: Huron County Veteran Service Office


Position: Part-Time: 20 hours per week. The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Occasional additional hours may be available or requested to provide office coverage during employee absences, special events, training, or other operational needs. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible.


Pay: $18.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.


Job Summary:

The Huron County Veteran Service Commission is seeking a reliable and organized Transportation Administrative Assistant to support local veterans. Under the direction of the Executive Director, this position coordinates transportation to and from VA medical facilities and other approved destinations while also providing essential administrative office support. The ideal candidate provides courteous and confidential service, maintains accurate transportation and office records, assists with daily office operations, and ensures vehicles are safe and properly maintained.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Honorably discharged veteran or spouse, surviving spouse, child, or parent of a veteran
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to pass a background check
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
  • Basic reporting, documentation, and computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, etc.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain transportation schedules for clients and drivers
  • Schedule vehicle maintenance and emergency repairs
  • Assist with general inquiries and direct to appropriate staff
  • Maintain confidential and accurate records
  • Performs clerical and administrative tasks
  • Maintain accurate data information and prepare reports
  • Answer phones and greet veterans and visitors professionally
  • Attend Commission meetings and veteran-related events as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
